Shopalm commemorates Madam C.J. Walker on March 8, Women's Day

Shopalm, an e-commerce startup, was founded to address the challenges faced by women entrepreneurs and individual sellers who produce and sell products from home during the pandemic. Launched with the motto "Shopping in the Palm of Your Hand," Shopalm has always prioritized women entrepreneurs. Shopalm has achieved tenfold growth in just six months.

March 8 Women's Day

Shopalm, with its e-commerce model that empowers women to grow their place in the entrepreneurial ecosystem and turn their hobbies into income, celebrates Women's Day in Turkey and around the world. This year, Shopalm's story inspired Madam CJ Walker. One of the world's first Black female entrepreneurs and first female millionaires, Madam CJ Walker's entrepreneurial journey, which began exactly 100 years ago, has inspired the women of Shopalm today.

Madam CJ Walker, One of the World's First Black Female Entrepreneurs

Sarah Breedlove, known as Madam C.J. Walker, was born on December 23, 1867. She was the first child born into freedom in her family after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed. She and her husband established a business, which they promoted as an independent hair salon and retailer of cosmetic creams. She began selling her products door-to-door to Black women. By 1917, the company had trained and employed approximately 20,000 women. At the time, companies selling products to Black women were using images of women of color on their packaging to conform to European beauty standards. However, Walker, an African-American woman, placed her own image on the packaging. Walker also holds the distinction of being the first self-made millionaire.

A Tribute to Madam CJ Walker

Shopalm commissioned a portrait illustration of Madam CJ Walker, one of the world's first Black female entrepreneurs, on March 8th, Women's Day. The video, which explains the stages of the portrait's creation, also tells Madam CJ Walker's inspiring story for all female entrepreneurs.
